7th JCPOA Joint Commission wraps up in Vienna

TEHRAN, Apr. 25 (MNA) – The seventh joint commission between Iran and the 5+1 in Vienna ended after three hours of debate and discussion of topics like breach of commitment by the US and Iran’s purchase of 950 tons of yellowcake.

The meeting was co-chaired by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for International and Legal Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Secretary General of European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid.

According to the report, the first bilateral meeting of the Iranian delegation has kicked off with the British team while the following session will be held with the US.

In addition to Araghchi, the Iranian delegation comprises Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

Prior to the meeting, Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday morning in Vienna that all breaches of commitment to obligations by the US will be raised at the 7th Iran and 5+1 Joint Commission adding “those measures will be touched upon that are believed to be against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”

He highlighted that the claims raised by the US President and other US officials on the policy of reconsideration, evaluation and review of the JCPOA and its creating the atmosphere of distrust and perplexity for the world, were all contrary to the JCPOA, its spirit and content.

“Talks for purchasing 950 tons of yellow cake from Kazakhstan have not concluded and are till underway,” noted Araghchi who is also head of the joint commission monitoring implementation of the nuclear deal between Tehran and 5+1 group of countries.

Touching upon the UK protest to Iran’s purchase of 950 tons of yellow cake from Kazakhstan, the official said talks have not yet come to an end and are going on.

“There are still questions whether Iran needs that amount of yellowcake,” said Araghchi highlighting that the envisaged amount is meant to address Iran's needs in the years to come.”

“We are now working on the project and talks on the issue are underway though certain groups agree with and certain others are against it.”

The 7th Iran and 5+1 Joint Commission Session opened in Vienna with representatives of Iran and the EU in attendance.
